Superintelligence (ASI)
A hypothetical AI that far exceeds human capability across virtually all cognitive domains, not the same as a strong chatbot, today's LLM, or human-level AGI.
Superintelligence (often abbreviated ASI, artificial superintelligence) denotes an AI that far surpasses the best humans at most economically valuable work or scientific tasks. It is a speculative endpoint, not a product category you can buy today.
AGI is the nearer hypothetical milestone of broad, human-level general competence; ASI goes further. A capable LLM in a chatbot can look impressive yet remain brittle on facts, planning, and long-horizon goals, so neither fluent models nor narrow agents qualify as superintelligence. The technological singularity is a related but separate idea about the pace of change; alignment asks whether such systems would reliably pursue human-intended values.
