Paul Smolensky
Cognitive scientist who described the harmonium model, a precursor to restricted Boltzmann machines.
Smolensky introduced the harmonium in 1986, a stochastic neural network closely related to Boltzmann machines. The restricted variant forbids within-layer connections and became a building block for later deep belief networks.
