Nathaniel Rochester

1752–1831

IBM engineer who co-organized the 1956 Dartmouth summer project on artificial intelligence.

Rochester helped draft the proposal for the 1956 Dartmouth workshop and attended as an IBM representative. The meeting he helped organize is widely cited as the birthplace of artificial intelligence as a named research field.
