Geoffrey Hinton

1947

Pioneer of neural networks who co-wrote backpropagation, led AlexNet, and won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Hinton helped revive neural networks through backpropagation research and co-developed Boltzmann machines in 1985. His 2006 work on deep belief networks and later supervision of the AlexNet team transformed computer vision. He shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics with John Hopfield for foundational work on artificial neural networks.
