World chess champion who lost a 1997 match to IBM Deep Blue, a landmark moment for AI.

Kasparov had been world champion since 1985 when he faced Deep Blue in New York. He lost the six-game match 3½-2½, the first time a reigning champion fell to a computer under standard tournament conditions.
