David Rumelhart

Cognitive scientist who co-authored the 1986 backpropagation paper that revived neural network training.

With Ronald Williams and Geoffrey Hinton, Rumelhart showed how backpropagation could train multi-layer neural networks efficiently. The 1986 Nature paper helped end a long stall in connectionist research and opened the path to modern deep learning.
